For the Love of the Bug

People began calling the Volkswagen Beetle the “Bug” or “Love Bug” in 1968 after the release of “Herbie the Love Bug”. The film starred a Volkswagen type 1 Beetle as title character, Herbie. The film gave the car a personality of its own that made the car seem playful and sweet. Since then, the Beetle has been portrayed with plenty of fun and emotion.

The Love Bug has inspired love from Beetle owners all over. Each year, Bug owners travel thousands of miles to annual car shows and events to show off their love for their Bugs.

In the 1960s, the Bug became popular for surfers, hippies and other peace-loving people. They liked the car for its unique, quirky design, and the fact that it stood out as unique when compared other cars on the market. The Volkswagen Beetle became a symbol of the hippie movement, which focused on spreading peace and love.

The Volkswagen Beetle is an easy car to love, and Beetle owners all over have definitely caught the Love Bug. Tell us how you lovey our bug this February!
