Luxurious, European Craftsmanship

2012 volkswagen passatThe Passat has been one of Volkswagen’s most popular cars in past years, and the 2012 Passat is expected to set a new benchmark in the competitive midsize vehicle segment.  Here’s a sneak peak of what you can expect from the 2012 VW Passat, a car that will surely revolutionize the automobile market in America later this year.

Inspiring Value

VW realized that it needed a way to offer luxury with more affordably, so the newest VW Passat will be offered at prices starting $7,000 less than the previous model.  Additionally, many new standard features have been added, proving that the price drop doesn’t indicate a decrease in comfort or luxury.  Examples of now-standard features include dual-climate controls, Bluetooth compatibility, and a spacious cabin.  For luxurious European styling without the price tag, the Passat is the solution, starting at just under $20,000.

Engine Options

Last year’s model featured a four-cylinder, turbo-charged engine.  This year, there are three completely different options from which drivers can choose.  First is a 2.5-liter, five-cylinder gas engine with 170 horsepower.  If this isn’t enough for your driving style, check out your second option: a larger, 3.6-liter, V-6 gas engine, which packs 280 horsepower.  If you want to go green, you have that option as well with a 2.0-liter, 140 horsepower diesel engine.  This choice will grant you around 31 mpg on city streets and an impressive 43 mpg on the highway.

Luxurious, European Craftsmanship

The smooth dashboard, soft leather seats, and padded leather steering wheel beneath your fingers give off the impression that you’re sitting in a car priced twice as high.  The VW plant in Chattanooga, Tenn., implements rigorous quality control to ensure that your 2012 Passat will be durable and dependable, as well as beautiful and comfortable.

DIY Car Maintenance

Do It Yourself Car Maintenance:

DIY Car Maintenance

Some aspects of car maintenance are relatively easy, take little or no time and incur minimal cost, yet many drivers pay extra money out of pocket to an expensive repair shop or a local mechanic to take care of these matters. Here is a list of quick and easy car maintenance solutions that you can do yourself and keep your hard-earned cash where it belongs.

Air Filters

A good rule of thumb is to change the air filter every 12 months or 12,000 miles – whichever comes first. Replacing the air filter takes about five minutes and costs $10-$15.

The filter is housed in a black rectangular box with metal clips on the sides. Check your owner’s manual if you don’t see it when you open the hood.

Pull out the old filter and make a note of which direction it was facing. Replace it with your new filter, close the lid, snap the clips back into place, and voila!

Windshield Wipers

Wipers follow the same general formula as filters: locate, remove, replace once you notice smearing or streaking. Wipers, however, differ more from car to car, so have your owner’s manual ready for easy reference.

Lift the wipers as though you were cleaning them and remove the old blades. Usually there’s a screw or bolt holding them in place. After that, repeat the process in reverse, replacing the bolt afterward.

Spark Plugs

This repair is a bit more in-depth, but with a bit of practice it can become second nature. The owner’s manual is required for this repair because the plugs need to be installed in a specific order, which can vary from vehicle to vehicle. Usually spark plugs need to be replaced every 30,000 miles.

The plugs are attached to thick, rubbery wires protruding out of the engine block. There are four, six, or eight spark plugs, depending on how many cylinders are in your engine.

Remove the wire to the first plug ONLY. Don’t remove all of the wires at once because the plugs need to be in a certain order. Use a spark plug extension on a ratchet to remove the plug. Install the new one by first screwing it in by hand, then using a wrench to tighten it until snug. Reattach the wire and repeat the process for the other plugs.

These are three of the most common routine car maintenance items someone can face, and now you no longer have to spend time and energy bringing your car to an expensive mechanic. Car maintenance, like everything else, requires practice, but with enough of it you can easily fix any problem that arises.

VW Batteries: Charged Up and Ready for your Car

VW Batteries and Texas Heat

Our Texas summers are legendary for hot, dry conditions that leave visitors running for the A/C. Even if you’re a well-acclimated local, the dog days will slow you down for a minute. Ever wonder how your car feels, living life on the pavement in all that heat? Just as with us, the summer heat can bear down on a car, even a trusty Volkswagen, and slow things down a bit. To protect your VW batteries’ performance come in to Lewisville VW, just minutes from downtown Dallas, and let us help you beat the heat.

A European Battery in Texas

At Volkswagen, we engineer our VW batteries specifically for your VW model. A Genuine Volkswagen Battery will keep your car going longer in extreme conditions than regular brands. Volkwagen batteries, which are more powerful than most other brands, are also tested to higher safety standards. With a larger reserve capacity, more suited to today’s European cars, the VW battery is your best bet in the Texas heat.

Heat and the VW Battery

Summertime is particularly hard on your car’s battery — even a VW battery. Extreme heat can evaporate the water in your battery; once enough water evaporates, battery cells can overheat. High temperatures make your battery work harder, which decreases its lifespan, especially if you run extra electronics like an iPod, portable navigation, chargers, or even the air conditioner. Summer heat can also loosen your battery’s connections, since heat causes metal to expand. And while heat makes it more likely that your battery will die, it also increases the time it takes a battery to recharge.

Beat the Heat

You gear up with sunscreen, ice cream, and air conditioning to prepare for the summer heat. Protect your car the way you protect yourself, and you’ll keep loving your VW for many years to come. To care for your battery and the rest of your automobile, stop by Lewisville VW and see one of our knowledgeable technicians.
